Between August 2003 and May 2004 I worked for an iNGO in Bukavu, Eastern DRC.
Travelling extensively across South Kivu, North Kivu and Ituri, I met many people whose resistance to the surrounding violence was to carry on living with dignity against the odds: nuns, social and community workers, children.
These pictures were the starting point for my designs for Stella Feehily's play Bang Bang Bang which premiered at the Bolton Octagon in September 2011, and is sold out on tour and at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Images were exhibited on Guardian Online, on the Out of Joint Website and at Conway Hall as part of Congo Direct!
