A new song theatre piece developed to bear witness to the courage and resilience of war correspondents, stringers, translators and fixers who risk their lives to shine light into the darkest corners of the world. Helen and I interviewed over 30 journalists over 5 years to generate the material for the piece, which has been co commissioned by Sage Gateshead, Greenwich International Festival and Birmingham Rep.
The scenography consists of a large piece of draped plastic sheeting, 2 wooden crates, 4 chairs, 5 stools, 2 tables and 30 adapted anglepoise lamps which are actor operated. It is designed to be lightwieght and makeshift, adapting to various playing spaces whether conventional theatre or site specific spaces.
