      <image:title>Creative workshops, outreach and participation - PROCESSIONS 2018 Clean Break/ Artichoke</image:title>
<image:caption>PROCESSIONS 2018 was a commissioned by Artichoke and 1418 NOW to commemorate the centenary of the famous 'Sea of Banners' march for women's suffrage through London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. I was commissioned by Clean Break Theatre to work with thier members to devise, design and create a banner celebrating womens suffrage and asking questions about equality and justice one hundred years on, when prisoners in the UK do not have the vote, and when women living in refuges are unable to use their voice to vote due to safety concerns. <image:title>Visual Art - Digital Shadows 01</image:title>
<image:caption>Photo: Art Refuge Process shot taken in L’accueil de jour de Calais, Secours Catholique Digital Shadows 01-04 were made one sunny afternoon in June 2019 with a group of refugee men who were accessing mobile phone charging points, hospitality and shelter at Secours Catholique's day centre in Calais, northern France. Working in the outdoor courtyard using the cyanotype process, personal objects were placed on pre-sensitised paper and exposed to sunlight for 3-4 minutes, leaving shadows which were fixed when washed out by water. The immediate alchemy drew together a number of men who co-created the works with objects central to their survival such as their mobile phones. Cyanotype was discovered in 1842 making it one of the earliest processes to fix a photographic image. Digital Shadows 01-04 were made during Art Refuge's programme of delivery and the cyanotype process led by artist Miriam Nabarro. Established as a charity in 2006, Art Refuge offers specialist art and art therapy spaces to people who have been displaced due to war, persecution and poverty, both while in transit and once they have reached their destination. Working in Calais from 2015-20, its team of art therapists and visual artists, including those with lived experience as refugees, developed innovative, imaginative ways to work collaboratively with refugees living in transit on the France-UK border and facing ongoing exposure to hostility and homelessness.</image:caption>

A family who are suddenly faced with the unexpected, when, at 6 months, Lily is diagnosed with a rare neurological condition with potentially life-changing consequences. Suzy Gill's debut play, told in spoken word poetry, is a lyrical, honest and tender exploration of their family life as they begin tentatively to orbit the struggles and triumphs that come following the discovery that Lily's brain did not quite form the way that He and She anticipated. <image:caption>Buttercup is the story of a young woman strong enough to finally make herself heard. She is live streaming an informal spoken word gig to her online followers. As she takes the mic, she desperately hopes that her audience will include the one person who needs to hear her truth: her mother. Weaving words, poems, and memories, she shares her story. From a vulnerable little girl in a bedroom in Kinshasa to a bold young woman partying and performing in Liverpool. Only now is she ready to revisit a past that she has locked away, to recognise the power behind her mother’s warnings, and to accept the truth that she was never to blame for what happened to her. Written and performed by Dorcas Seb. A co-production by 20 Stories High and Tigerlily Productions from an original idea by Associate Artist Odile Mukete. Directed by Julia Samuels. Co-produced by Jenny Monks (Tigerlily Productions) and Leanne Jones (20 Stories High). Production Design by Miriam Nabarro. As he recounts his adventures, the pilot re-discovers the power of imagination, the importance of doing what we can to protect our natural world, and the true meaning of friendship. In Inua Ellams’ magical retelling of the much loved story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the Little Prince descends from an African race in a parallel galaxy. He travels across time and space seeking help to bring peace to his warring planet. His journey as a galactic emigrant addresses climate change, morality, takes us through solar systems of odd planets with strange beings, and shows how even a little thing can make a big difference.Children and adults are transported to the world of The Little Prince with puppetry, music of North African heritage and a rich Afrofuturist aesthetic.</image:caption>

<image:caption>By Kamal Kaan Directed by Alex Chisholm and Dermot Daly Designed by Miriam Nabarro Sound Design by Ed Clarke BSL Interpretation by Sarah Cox In an office somewhere in Bradford, Aaliyah and Imani are trying to get on with their cleaning job while anxiously waiting for news of their brother, Syeed, threatened with deportation to Bangladesh. When Home Secretary, Parveen Parvaiz, announces the news they dread, Aaliyah must rise up and face the might of the State but her political activism puts her own life in danger. The production is both a digital and live experience that examines the fragile nature of Citizenship, making us question our own relationship with ourselves, others, and our country. Written by Bradford’s own Kamal Kaan, author of Breaking Up with Bradford for BBC and Decades for Leeds Playhouse.</image:caption>

<image:title>Theatre - Please Do Not Touch by Casey Bailey</image:title>
<image:caption>Directed by Gail Babb Designed by Miriam Nabarro Sound by Keyodeine Light by Gillian Tan “They will tell you that legal and illegal are the same as right and wrong. And I’ve told you that you only have to sit still for a moment and watch the pieces move to see what a lie that is.” Written by former Birmingham Poet Laureate Casey Bailey (GrimeBoy, Birmingham Rep) and directed by award-winning theatre maker, Gail Babb (Stars, Tamasha – OFFIE’S Best New Play 2024), Please Do Not Touch is a brand-new co-production between China Plate and Belgrade Theatre. An extension of Casey’s poetry collection of the same name, Please Do Not Touch follows the story of Mason, a social justice TikToker, as he visits heritage houses to uncover the true stories behind the objects that live within. After an incident with a Somali Afro comb, Mason finds himself inside a Young Offender Institution. Now in the belly of the systems he is protesting, Mason uses the power of poetry to survive his ordeal and navigate how to keep speaking up when everything is designed to silence him.</image:caption>
